Young midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has issued an ultimatum to Manchester United, requesting to leave if he is not given regular playing time. Head coach Ruben Amorim now faces mounting pressure to retain this promising talent.
Manchester, England – Kobbie Mainoo, 20-year-old midfielder for Manchester United, has expressed frustration over limited playing time under head coach Ruben Amorim. According to ESPN, Mainoo and his representatives requested a meeting with Amorim and sporting director Jason Wilcox to discuss his future at the club. Mainoo is concerned that insufficient minutes on the pitch could affect his development and chances of participating in the 2026 World Cup.
Under Amorim, Mainoo has only appeared 12 times in 30 Premier League matches. The coach confirmed that Mainoo is competing directly with captain Bruno Fernandes for a starting spot, which has limited his opportunities to play.
Previously, Mainoo requested a loan move during the summer transfer window. Manchester United, however, rejected this request, deciding to keep him to compete for a place in the first team. To maintain fitness and form, Mainoo has been training privately with personal coach Jonas Dodoo during the international break.
At present, Mainoo faces a critical decision regarding his future. If he is not given regular playing time, he may push to leave during the upcoming January transfer window. This situation places head coach Ruben Amorim in a difficult position, balancing the need to retain a promising young talent with maintaining stability in the squad
