After a wave of fierce criticism for her husband’s absence from the World Series, the woman couldn’t hold back her tears.
Last night, on her personal page, Kayla wrote a short but emotional post:
“He wasn’t running away, he was just trying to do the right thing. Sometimes being a good person hurts you more than anything else.”

The post quickly went viral on social media, attracting tens of thousands of comments. Many fans expressed sympathy, but there was also a lot of criticism from Dodgers’ diehards, who said Vesia “betrayed the team” by being absent during the most important moment of the season.
In fact, Alex Vesia – 29 years old – did not attend the championship parade with the team, after asking for leave to deal with a “very personal” family matter. The team confirmed and fully supported this decision, but social media was not so forgiving.
“It was sad to see the harsh words,” Kayla said in an interview with People. “He gave it all for the Dodgers. No one knows how many sleepless nights he had to endure, how much pain he had to endure to play, and then he had to leave in tears because of a family matter. And when people only see the person who is ‘absent,’ they forget that behind that person is a person who is falling apart.”

According to sources close to Vesia and Kayla, they were going through a difficult time related to the health of a family member, and that was what led him to temporarily leave the team right before the World Series. “He can’t pitch and be afraid of losing someone he loves. And I don’t want him to have to choose between the title and his family,” Kayla shared.
However, immediately after the Dodgers lifted the championship trophy, a wave of criticism erupted online. Some comments said “Vesia should put the team first.” That night, Kayla had to turn off her phone, delete social media, and finally burst into tears:
“We don’t need anyone’s pity. We just want to be understood.”

Many of Vesia’s teammates immediately defended him. Pitcher Walker Buehler wrote:
“No one has the right to judge when a man chooses to protect his family. Alex is the brother I am most proud of.”
Meanwhile, loyal Dodgers fans also sent a series of encouraging messages: “You won in your own way, Alex.” A banner was even hung outside Dodger Stadium this morning, reading: “Family first. Always proud of you, Vesia.”

Amid the bright halo of the championship, the image of Kayla Vesia hugging her baby crying by the window left many people speechless. In the darkness, she said only one sentence: “If anyone has ever lost something precious, they will understand why Alex couldn’t be there.”
There are great victories that are written in history books, and there are also silent victories written in tears.
For Alex Vesia and his wife, victory is not about the silver cup – it is about the courage to choose the right thing, even when the whole world misunderstands.
“We have suffered so much… but if we had to choose again, Alex would do it the same way,” – Kayla Vesia, Los Angeles, 2025.
