In a heartbreaking turn of events, the family of late Dallas Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Kneeland has broken their silence following his shocking death — and revealed a bittersweet new reality: his girlfriend, Catalina Mancera, is expecting their first child. At just 24 years old, Kneeland’s life was cut tragically short when he died from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound after a police pursuit.
During an emotional press conference, Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer confirmed that the organization has established the Marshawn Kneeland Memorial Fund to support Mancera and their baby long-term. “She’s pregnant, and we want to make sure she’s taken care of … and the baby is taken care of for the rest of their lives,” the coach said.

Mancera, grappling with grief, took to Facebook to share her heartbreak — and made a personal request: she’s asking friends, fans, and strangers alike to send her photos of Marshawn. “If you have any pictures of Marshawn — whether they’re recent, old, funny, or meaningful — I would truly appreciate it … every photo helps me hold onto a piece of him,” she wrote. The Cowboys, still reeling from the loss of their teammate, have rallied around Mancera. Teammates have vowed their “lifelong” support, while the coaching staff and front office emphasize that preserving Kneeland’s legacy is now a collective mission.
The tragedy has also brought renewed attention to mental health in sports. Authorities reported that Kneeland had a history of mental illness, and mental wellness resources remain a priority for the team and his loved ones.
As the Cowboys plan to honor Kneeland on the field — including memorial decals and a video tribute — his unborn child becomes a living part of his legacy. For his family and his team, caring for Catalina and the baby isn’t just a gesture; it’s a promise to keep his memory alive, one day at a time.
