Kayshon Boutte Injury Update: Will Patriots Star WR Play Sunday?

FOXBORO — The New England Patriots received a mix of relief and concern this week after head coach Mike Vrabel offered an update on rookie wide receiver Kayshon Boutte, who suffered a hamstring injury during Sunday’s 27–17 win over the Atlanta Falcons.

Vrabel confirmed on Monday that Boutte is “day-to-day” as he recovers from the setback, adding that the team’s medical staff will continue to monitor his progress closely throughout the week. While the diagnosis appears relatively mild, Vrabel hinted that the Patriots plan to take a cautious approach.

“We’ll see how he feels as the week goes on,” Vrabel said. “He’s doing everything he can to get back out there, but we’re not going to rush him. We’ll make sure he’s 100 percent before he plays again.”

Boutte, a 2023 sixth-round pick out of LSU, has been quietly emerging as a valuable depth piece in New England’s evolving offense. Known for his speed and strong hands, the young receiver was starting to earn more snaps alongside Kendrick Bourne and DeMario Douglas, particularly in three-wide sets. His injury came late in the second quarter after pulling up on a deep route, clutching the back of his leg before being escorted to the locker room.

According to team insiders, Boutte has been participating in limited rehab sessions and light stretching, but it’s uncertain whether he’ll suit up for next Sunday’s matchup against the New York Jets.

The Patriots’ offense has struggled with consistency this season, making Boutte’s development crucial for their passing attack. Quarterback Mac Jones had recently praised the rookie’s effort and timing in practice, calling him “a guy who’s learning fast and bringing energy to the huddle.”

If Boutte isn’t cleared in time, the Patriots could look to elevate Tyquan Thornton or K.J. Osborn from the practice squad, or rely more heavily on veteran JuJu Smith-Schuster, who has battled injuries of his own.

For Vrabel, the focus remains on player health and long-term durability. “It’s a long season,” he said. “We need everyone at their best when it matters most.”

While Boutte’s injury doesn’t appear to be season-threatening, his status remains one of the most closely watched storylines in Foxborough this week. The Patriots will provide further updates following midweek practice sessions.
