In an emotional interview, former Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Eude Brito opened up for the first time about the pain of losing his young son in a tragic accident in the Dominican Republic.
In early June 2025, Eude Brito and his family visited their hometown in the Dominican Republic for a vacation. One afternoon, while walking with his grandmother, Brito’s son, Eyren Ezequiel Brito Pacheco, 2, was hit by a car in a shopping center parking lot. The accident took the boy’s life, while Eyren’s grandmother was also seriously injured. Eyren’s sudden passing has left the Brito family in great pain.
In the interview, Eude Brito shared:
“If there is another life, I would still want to be his father. My son is my pride and the reason I always strive in life. Losing him, I feel like I have lost a part of myself.”
His voice choked up as he recalled memories of Eyren, from their first steps to the laughter of the afternoons together. He said that with each passing day, he missed his son more deeply.
Eude Brito, born on August 19, 1978 in Sabana de la Mar, Dominican Republic, joined the Philadelphia Phillies in 2005. In his short MLB career, he made 13 appearances, with a record of 2 wins and 4 losses. After leaving the Phillies, Brito continued to play for several other teams before retiring.
Although not a big star in MLB, Eude Brito was always loved by teammates and fans thanks to his gentle personality and relentless fighting spirit. He always considered family as his top priority and the biggest source of encouragement in life.
The news of Eyren’s passing shocked the MLB community. Many former teammates and fans sent condolences and encouragement to Brito’s family. They expressed their deep sorrow and hoped that Eude Brito would find the strength to overcome this pain.
Although the pain of losing a son is irreparable, Eude Brito said he will continue to live for his family and to remember Eyren. He hopes that his story will be a source of encouragement for those who are going through similar losses.
“My son will always live in my heart. I will continue to go on, not just for me, but for my son,” Brito shared.
