The England captain has plans to switch to rugby.
“The dream of playing in the NFL is real,” Harry Kane said. “It’s something I want to try in the next 10 or 12 years. If you play in the Premier League, the World Cup and then the NFL, will you be recognised as one of the greats?”
The Tottenham star has admitted he has a great passion for American football. He named his two dogs after his idols, Tom Brady and Russell Wilson. Kane admires Tom Brady, the six-time NFL champion, and inspired him to take up the sport.
“At first, I just followed him on YouTube,” Kane recalled. “Tom is 41 years old and not many people thought he would reach the level he has now, to become one of the best in history. We have one thing in common. We were not natural players, we were both doubted when we were young. But look at Tom, anything is possible. If you believe in yourself and have the desire, anything is possible.”
The position Kane wants to play in the NFL is kicker. This is the position that pays the “lowest” salary in the American professional football league – only about a million dollars a year, but it suits Kane the best. “I want to go there to be the best, not for the money,” the England striker emphasized.
Tom Brady is the star quarterback of the New England Patriots, who won the Super Bowl last month. Kane was invited by Brady to the team’s post-game celebration after winning the most expensive sports game in America.
Tottenham’s new home, the 62,000-seat Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, will host two NFL games in 2019. Kane confirmed he will definitely be there for both events.
