Thanks to the influence of the Taylor Swift – Travis Kelce love story, football fashion suddenly became a new trend.

Football has long been a fashion-forward sport. Sports fans with a taste for style tend to favor tennis, with its elegant white court attire attracting celebrities like Meghan Markle and the Hadid sisters.
Basketball is also a big name in the fashion world, creating more style icons from Dennis Rodman to Angel Reese than any other sport.

Meanwhile, football – the sport considered the “national spirit” of America – has been almost out of the fashion game for decades, since the heyday of the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders in the 1970s.
However, that is gradually changing thanks to the appearance of Taylor Swift and the attractive WAG (wives and girlfriends) style wave she is spreading.
Just a year after the love story between Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce and “Queen of Pop” Taylor Swift took social media by storm, football fashion has had a clear change.

Chiefs marketing director Lara Krug says the team’s fan base is growing, especially among women.
“Currently, 57% of our followers are women. That’s much higher than the league average of 46%, and it’s a clear sign that our fandom is expanding,” Krug says.
A boost for American football fashion
According to InStyle, the significant shift in fan base is not only reflected on the Kansas City Chiefs’ social media platforms, but also reflected in merchandise sales, which have grown steadily year after year.
The new, tasteful and willing-to-spend fans are largely inspired by the fashion style Taylor Swift wears to cheer on her boyfriend.
In January 2024, when Taylor Swift appeared at the Kansas City Chiefs’ Wild Card game wearing a custom-designed “Kelce” jacket, the item immediately sold out.
