The normally lively atmosphere of a speech at Utah Valley University turned tragic in seconds when conservative activist Charlie Kirk, a key ally of President Trump, was shot and killed while speaking at Utah Valley University. Hundreds of students in the hall said the gunshots rang out as he was sharing his views on the role of young people in building sustainable communities.
University security immediately evacuated the entire audience and took Charlie Kirk to the nearest hospital, but doctors confirmed that he had died from his injuries. The city police said the shooter – identified as a man in his 30s – was arrested at the scene and is currently being questioned to clarify his motive.
Emma Watson, who has worked with Charlie Kirk on many projects for gender equality, expressed shock and sadness. “Charlie Kirk was not only a colleague, but a profound inspiration to me and countless young people. The world has lost a courageous voice,” she shared on social media, choking up.
Utah Valley University officials announced a public memorial and increased security measures for upcoming events. The local community is also planning a candlelight vigil to honor the legacy and ideals of Charlie Kirk.
