The FBI has released a new image of the suspect in the murder of activist Charlie Kirk and is offering a reward for his arrest.
According to CNN, the FBI on September 11 released an image of the suspect in the murder of Charlie Kirk, taken from a security camera on the Utah Valley University campus.
“We are asking the public to help identify this subject. At the scene, agents also recovered a rifle, shoe prints, and the suspect’s handprints. Everything will be thoroughly analyzed,” the FBI Salt Lake City office said.
In the released image, the suspect is a relatively young man, dressed in black, wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses. At present, the FBI has received more than 130 sources of information from the public and is quickly verifying them.
In addition to calling for assistance, the FBI also offered a $100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect. The attack on Mr. Kirk shocked the United States, raising deep concerns about the situation of “political violence”.
In a speech commemorating the 9/11 event, President Donald Trump announced that he would posthumously award Mr. Kirk the Medal of Freedom. Previously, Mr. Trump also requested that flags be flown at half-staff nationwide until September 14 to remember this activist.
On September 10, Mr. Kirk was shot in the neck while speaking to students at Utah Valley University. The assassin opened fire from a building about 180m away from the speech location, about 20 minutes after Mr. Kirk spoke to the crowd.
Kirk is one of the most prominent right-wing activists and media figures in the United States, considered a staunch ally of President Trump. At the age of 18, he became a co-founder of the non-profit conservative advocacy organization Turning Point USA.
