With deep sadness, the Jane Goodall Institute confirmed this morning the passing of its cherished founder, Dr. Jane Goodall, at the age of 91. She left this world peacefully in her sleep while in Los Angeles, still devoted to her mission of spreading hope and action during her U.S. speaking tour.
Dr. Goodall transformed humanity’s understanding of chimpanzees, wildlife, and the fragile environments we share. Beginning in 1960 with her groundbreaking research in Gombe National Park—now the longest-running wild chimpanzee study in history—she challenged scientific boundaries and changed the world’s perspective on the natural world. Yet her legacy reaches far beyond science. As a tireless advocate for compassion, conservation, and the power of youth, she built the Jane Goodall Institute and inspired the Roots & Shoots movement, which today drives change in over 75 countries.
The Institute expresses profound gratitude to all supporters and invites the world to honor Dr. Goodall by sharing personal tributes and carrying forward the hope she so passionately entrusted to us all.
